NSGY 86001 Neurosurgery

Students will participate in the evaluation and management of patients presenting with disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, and their supporting vasculature with a focus on surgical approaches to treatment. Students will participate in clinical examinations, discuss differential diagnoses and diagnostic procedures, and gain exposure to surgical management options in areas including Neurosurgical Oncology, Cerebro-Vascular/Endovascular Neurosurgery, spinal neurosurgery. Clinical settings will include both outpatient and inpatient care and also involve areas of critical care, trauma management, and radiology. Students will be exposed to the surgical anatomy of the brain and spine as well as a wide range of disorders including traumatic injury, tumors, vascular anomalies, seizures, infection, stroke, functional disorders, and degenerative diseases of the spine.
