EMER 86002 Emergency Medicine

The Emergency Medicine elective is designed to expose students to the fundamentals of emergency medicine with a focus on the initial triage, evaluation, and management of the undifferentiated patient. Priority is placed on the "complaint-based" evaluation with a principal goal of identifying and treating life-threatening injuries and illnesses. Emphasis will be placed on initiating resuscitation and stabilization before a definitive diagnosis is made. Students will learn how to approach a wide range of emergencies to establish a solid foundation of skills and knowledge for their future career choices.
