PSYM 86003 Addiction Medicine
Students will participate in the evaluation and management of patients with substance use disorders in an outpatient setting. Areas of emphasis will include withdrawal management, pharmacotherapy, harm-reduction, abstinence-based recovery, and pain management. Students will be exposed to a range of substance use disorders including behavioral addictions (gambling, compulsive sex behaviors etc). Additional attention will be placed on psychiatric care, psychosocial treatment approaches, and management of coexisting medical disorders. Clinical settings will include both outpatient clinic and recovery center.
