MEDS 86005 Law and Medicine
Brief survey of several areas of the law which impact physicians. Topics include tort law, malpractice, consent, liability insurance, business entities, contracts, and regulatory issues. Guest speakers will address areas in their specialty. The course goal is to afford students a practical background and knowledge of the law which will affect their day-to-day activities as a physician and to examine the ethical issues involved, in the legal context. Actual cases will be used to illustrate the legal principles discussed, as well as topical handouts. The elective will require one short paper.
