SURG 86001 Advanced Hepatopancreatobiliary & Gastrointestinal Surgery

Students will participate in the evaluation and care of patients with hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal diseases. Students will be exposed to a wide range of complex benign and malignant hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and gastrointestinal diseases. Areas of focus will include pancreatic neoplasms, liver tumors, chronic pancreatitis, complications of acute pancreatitis, biliary surgery, and complex surgical cases involving the esophagus, stomach, and colon. Students will be expected to see patients in the clinic, round with the surgical team on hospitalized patients, write notes and develop a plan of care for complex GI surgical patients, and participate in surgery. Students will take an active role in a multidisciplinary treatment approach in collaboration with gastroenterology, medical and radiation oncology, and interventional radiology.
