SURG 86010 Reconstructive Surgery

Students will have the opportunity to focus on advanced reconstructive plastic surgery, in which surgeries are performed with the aim of restoring normal form and function of tissue after compromise by traumatic injury, infection, cancer surgery, or congenital reasons. Students will be exposed to a range of clinical settings including hospital-based management, outpatient clinics, and the operating room. Additional focus will be placed on developing skills in suturing. Areas of specific emphasis will include reconstruction after surgical complications, cancer resection, wound infection, or traumatic injury; management of pilonidal disease and hidradenitis; and operative techniques involving hand surgery, abdominoplasty, liposuction, breast augmentation and mastopexy, and craniofacial surgery.
