IMED 86015 Aging and Dementia

Students will participate in the diagnosis, evaluation and management of patients presenting with a wide range of dementia conditions. Students will experience the different levels of care provided at the James L. West Center for Dementia Care. Areas of focus will include the diagnosis and assessment of dementia and memory disorders as well as the normal effects of aging on the brain, prevention strategies, neuropsychiatric and cognitive testing, and advanced care planning. Students will become familiar with the behavioral issues that can be associated with dementia conditions and appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches.
